Plenty Of Fun In The Sun Without The Hastle Of Skin Problems

It is always a great idea to take a holiday. We need to take plenty of rest and relaxation if we are to maintain our health and vitality. The pressures of everyday life are quite daunting and put a lot of extra stress on our bodies. It is not only the mental stress that we suffer, but also the stress to our skin and hair condition. The sun is perhaps the worst offender when it comes to skin damage, but it is also beneficial from the vitamin E. ‘Too much of anything can be a little bad for your health’, which is a much used and vaguely true expression.

Where skin problems build up on holiday is from over exposure to the sun and its harmful UV rays which tend to break down the collagen in the skin and cause premature ageing. The sun can also cause pigmented patches and age spots. Nina Goad of the British Association of Dermatologists says Unfortunately, sun damage is largely irreparable, so prevention is definitely better than a cure,’.

Damage to the skin can be greatly encouraged by the effect of both UVA and UVB rays. Sun burn is caused by the UVB, whilst over exposure to UVA will prematurely age the skin. UVA can also still cause sunburn damage to the skin if you sit too close to panes of glass in a window in the full glare of the sun. Here are some suggestions for avoiding dry skin issues whilst enjoying yourself on holiday:

  • Drink plenty of fluids, but don’t drink too much alcohol.
  • Ending up with agonising sunburn should be relieved with the use of an anti-inflammatory.
  • If you have a sickening feeling or dizzyness or you skin is irritated and blistered, you should probably consult a doctor.
  • Use a gentle moisturiser such as Gatineau Melatogenine or calamine lotion and avoid soap.
  • For sunburn and itchyness of the skin, try a bath in cool water followed by the addition of some moisturising oils which prevents dryness.
